ATLANTA (AP) — The state Board of Education has agreed to waive class size requirements for the fourth year in a row.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/zZYQZS ) that the board voted Thursday to extend the waiver through next school year to give schools more flexibility as funding remains scarce. Schools are facing more than $1 billion in state funding cuts, as well as steep declines in local property tax revenues.

Class size limits vary. It can range from 18 students in a kindergarten class to more than 30 students in a fine arts or foreign language middle school class.

In Cobb County, officials are adding two students per classroom at all grade levels in order to cut 250 teaching jobs.
