A woman was hit by multiple vehicles late Friday night while trying to cross Shorter Avenue in West Rome.

According to Cpl. Chris Fincher with the Floyd County Police Department:

A semi truck traveling eastbound on Shorter Avenue crested a hill just before Shorter Industrial Boulevard and struck a woman who was in the roadway.

The impact knocked her into the westbound lane of traffic where she was hit by another vehicle. She was then hit a couple more times by oncoming traffic.

Darryl Dean of Cedar Bluff, Ala., said he was driving west on Shorter when he struck some debris in the road and then immediately saw the victim in the roadway. He turned around to block traffic and call 911 but said he saw another vehicle strike the victim.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.

The incident occurred just before midnight and Shorter Avenue was blocked until after 1 a.m. Saturday while responders worked the scene.
