Larry Miolen, assistant chief of police for the city of Adairsville, has died after several months of battling lung cancer.

Miolen, 61, was diagnosed with small cell Carcinoma in June. He died Saturday at Gordon Hospital.

In August of this year members of the Adairsville community rallied to raise funds for Miolen’s treatment.

“I don’t want to sit at home and think about it," Miolen told the Calhoun Times in July. "I have always loved law enforcement. I am still a first responder for the police department and I also handle administration and investigations. I enjoy keeping busy."

Miolen was known for his work with the Gordon County Sheriff’s department. Miolen worked for many years with the department while continuing his efforts as an EMT part time.

Miolen spent his entire career in emergency medical services and law enforcement, often times working both at the same time. He worked many years with the Whitfield EMS, Gordon EMS, Bartow EMS, Gordon County Sheriff Department, Bartow County Sheriff Department and at the time of his passing he was the assistant police chief of the Adairsville Police Department.

Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Entombment is in the Christus Mausoleum at Haven of Rest Cemetery.
