Although temperatures outside were cold, the Resaca City Council came under heated rebuke from one local business owner during their Jan. 11 meeting.

Erica Stone, owner of the Chuck Wagon Restaurant came in front of the council for the fourth time to determine what she needed to do in order to get a pouring license.

“Your lawyer never called me back,” she told the Mayor. “I’ve been up here four times and no one knows nothing.”

Mayor Sam Allen promised her the city’s attorney would be in touch with her by the end of the week. Resaca has several locations with packaging license, but the pouring license would be a first for the city.

In other city news:

- The Resaca City Council voted to name Jean Makonis as Mayor Pro-Tem at Monday’s regular meeting. Jimmy Brown held the position for years under both current mayor Allen and former mayor Joe Don Griffith. “You said you would be gone a lot,” said Charles Austin, who seconded the motion made by Mitch Reed. Neither Makonis nor Brown participated in the vote.

- Allen also appointed new department heads. Makonis remained in charge of recreation. Brown was named over lights, Austin over community improvement, and Reed over roads.

In other council news, the city council voted to hire Vance and Associates out of Columbus to handle their required audit. The $5,000 base bid was $1,000 less than the bid from Ellis and Company out of Dalton. The hiring is contingent on a reference check and final interview with the company.

- Allen thanked Ricky Smith for donating time and equipment to remove the old Resaca Mall from the lot the city purchased recently. Cost of removal came to $4,694. Smith donated his time, a dozier, and a dump truck to help the city out. “I just hope people realize the potential Resaca has and be willing to donate a few hours of their time,” said Smith.
