Ricky Silvers will take his place as Chief Magistrate Judge in Gordon County after a landslide defeat over Democrat Scott Haynes in Tuesday's voting.

After bringing in 11,996 votes during Tuesday’s voting, Silvers ended the long road to victory with a win in the only contested local race.

Silvers came in second in a five-way Republican primary in July and came out on top as the Republican candidate in the August runoff elections, with 56 percent of the vote, leaving incumbent John Leggett trailing with 43 percent.

Tuesday, Silvers defeated Democrat Scott Haynes 11,996-3,707.

In the race for House District 5, Republican incumbent John Meadows defeated Democratic challenger Howard Johnson 10,348-2,918.

Meadows' House District 5 represents portions of Gordon Murray counties in the Georgia House of Representatives. (See story below.)

In the 14th Congressional district race, Republican, incumbent, Tom Graves will remain in his seat after outpolling Democrat Daniel “Danny” Grant, Tuesday with 75 percent of the local vote, 11.973-3,949.

Graves, from Ranger, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010.

His district was redrawn to cover much of Northwest Georgia after the 2010 census.

Grant Walraven will serve as Clerk of Court, as he took the win unopposed with a total of 14,150 ballots cast in Tuesday’s election. Walraven ousted incumbent Brian Brannon in the August runoff elections, with 53 percent to Brannon’s 46 percent.

Norris Sexton took the win for Commissioner, District 3, unseating the long sitting Alvin Long, who served 12 years on the board. Sexton squeaked out on top during the July primaries with 51.45 percent of the vote, after what he called a “nailbiter,” of a race, ousting Long’s 48 percent of the votes. Sexton received 13,527 votes Tuesday.

Jeff Gazaway won the seat as Commissioner for District 1, unseating long time incumbent and board chair Judy Bailey, who was also defeated in the July primaries. Gazaway received 13,552 votes in Tuesday’s election.

Running unopposed in Tuesday’s election was Gordon County School Board members, Brenda Null, Republican, incumbent, Post 2; Scott Williams, Republican, incumbent, Post 4; and Chris Johnson, Republican, incumbent, Post 6.

Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston, also running unopposed, will remain in office after defeating Jim Banks in the primaries in July.

This will be Ralston's second term as Sheriff.

Rosemary Greene was unopposed for the post of District Attorney of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit.

Also, Scott Clements will hold his seat as Tax Commissioner, John "Richie" Parker will hold his seat as Probate Court Judge, and James Carver will also hold his seat as Gordon County Coroner. These there races were also uncontested in Tuesday's election.
