A Resaca woman is in jail following an attempted armed robbery involving a hand saw.

According to the Gordon County Sheriff's Office:

Brittany Anne Birdyshaw, 25, is charged with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery.

A clerk at the Mapco convenience store at the Highway 53 split reported being approached by a white female, armed with a handsaw, demanding money early Sunday morning.

The clerk refused and activated the store's alarm, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

At that point, the woman, dubbed the 'Saw Bandit,' fled the building.

About four hours later, a deputy was checking on a car on Interstate 75 that had run out of gas.

According to the release, the deputy noticed a hand saw and other evidence of the alleged robbery.

The woman was not in the vehicle, but the two male occupants were detained for questioning and later released. Detectives do not believe the males knew about the attempted robbery.

Based on a surveillance video from the store and other evidence, sheriff's deputies and detectives arrested Birdyshaw at her home.

She remains in the Gordon County Jail pending bond proceedings.

"I'm glad no one was injured in this incident," said Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston. "Obviously, no one put a great deal of thought or planning into this, and my deputies were able to resolve the matter quickly."
