College Football: Rogers has huge week; McGowan, Frix see time in UGA win

Several former local football stars from Calhoun, Gordon Central and Sonoraville have moved on to play at the college level. Each week, the Calhoun Times will recap how those former local players did in their respective games. Listed below are the players that appeared in the box score from their teams’ games in Week 4 of the college season:

Rhett McGowan, Georgia, Calhoun alum

McGowan caught two passes for 26 yards in Georgia’s 48-3 win over Vanderbilt. He also had a 19-yard punt return in the win in Athens.

Ty Frix, Georgia, Calhoun alum

Frix handled all snapping duties for the Bulldogs and helped kicker Marshall Morgan go 6-for-6 on extra points.

Josh White, Shorter, Calhoun alum

White had one solo tackle and one assist for a total of two in Shorter’s 23-20 loss to Charleston Southern.

Nash Nance, Hampden-Sydney, Calhoun alum

Nance, the Tigers’ starting quarterback, was 20-of-37 passing for 227 yards and a touchdown in Hampden-Sydney’s 24-21 loss to Huntingdon College. He also had a rushing TD in the game.

Tre Lamb, Tennessee Tech, Calhoun alum

Lamb had a busy day at quarterback on Saturday in the Golden Eagles’ 41-38 loss in double overtime to Southeast Missouri State. He was 38-of-57 passing for 481 yards and three TDs in the loss. He also had a rushing TD.

Da’Rick Rogers, Tennessee Tech, Calhoun alum

Rogers broke single-game school records for both receptions and receiving yardage in the Golden Eagles’ double overtime loss. Rogers hauled in 18 catches for 303 yards and two touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named the Football Championship Subdivision’s Receiver of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CVPA).

Deshawn (Cicerio) Printup, Savannah State, Calhoun alum

Printup had one tackle in Savannah State’s 45-33 loss to North Carolina Central on Saturday.

Jayden Compton, Kentucky Christian, Gordon Central alum

Compton, a true freshman, recorded four carries for nine yards in the Knights’ 27-6 loss to Georgetown College.
