Several former local football stars from Calhoun, Gordon Central and Sonoraville have moved on to play at the college level. Each week, the Calhoun Times will recap how those former local players did in their respective games.

Listed below are the players that appeared in the box score from their teams’ games in Week 9 of the college season:

Nash Nance, Hampden-Sydney, Calhoun alum

Nance had a huge day in the Tigers’ 68-24 win over Guilford, going 22-of-35 passing for 309 yards and five touchdowns through the air.

Mason Strickland, Shorter, Calhoun alum

Strickland had two solos and one assist for a total of three tackles in Shorter’s loss to Valdosta State last Thursday. He also had a pass breakup in the game.

Adam Urbano, Tennessee Tech, Calhoun alum

Urbano rushed for 15 yards on six carries in the Golden Eagles’ 22-21 loss to rival Tennessee State on Saturday. Urbano’s teammates Da’Rick Rogers and Tre Lamb, also former Calhoun standouts, each missed the game due to injury.

Ty Frix, Georgia, Calhoun alum

Frix once again handled all snapping duties on punts, field goals and extra points for Georgia in their 17-9 win over Florida on Saturday. He helped kicker Marshall Morgan kick two extra points and convert a 29-yard field goal.

Tyler Thacker, Univ. of the Cumberlands, Sonoraville alum

Thacker, the starting center for the Patriots, helped his team run for 395 yards on the ground in a 62-19 win over Campbellsville (Kent.).

NOTE: If we left out a former local player that made an impact for his team this past Saturday, please send that player’s name, school, year and position to Sports Editor Alex Farrer at afarrer@calhountimes.com.
