Gordon County was represented by four 4-H members at NE/NW Senior Conference at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on April 2-3, 2010. This year’s theme for the event was “4-H: The Amazing Race.” Ap-proximately 138 delegates from across North Georgia attended the event. Local 4-H members who participated in the conference were: Madison Holbert, Amanda Morris, Katie Sutherland and Olivia Thornsbury. Beth Carlan-Watson, County Extension Agent 4-H Youth Development, accompanied the delegates to the Rock Eagle conference.

On Friday, the conference began with a Kick-off Assembly followed by line dancing, campfire with s’mores and a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt at Pioneer Camp. Saturday activities started off with “The Amazing Race.” 4-H’ers were broken up into groups and given clues and tasks at each location. They had to complete tasks such as parts identification from Poultry Judging, orienteering from Forestry Field Day, canoeing, BB target shooting from Project S.A.F.E. and a teamwork chal-lenge. The conference ended with a Closing Assembly where “The Amazing Race” winners were announced as well as an address from the State 4-H President, Brock Hufstetler.

4-H is the youth program of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
