More than 80 walkers turned out to complete the Calhoun Recreation trails in an effort to bring to light the many friends and neighbors in Gordon County who need food.

The annual Gordon County Hunger Walk on Nov. 4., sponsored by the Gordon County Ministerial Association, raised $1400, with more expected to come in.

The annual event helps raise much needed funds to assist local food banks: Blewer Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry, the 7th Day Adventist Food Bank and the food pantry at the Voluntary Action Center.

These churches had representatives walking: St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Calhoun 1st Presbyterian Church, Calhoun 1st UMC, St. Clement’s Catholic Church, 7th Day Adventist Church, New Echota UMC, Crane Eater Community Church, Blackwood Springs Baptist Church, Resaca Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist Church, Meadowdale Baptist Church and the Resaca Church of God.

The Gordon County Ministerial Association, wishes to thank: Brannon’s Funeral Home and Thomas Funeral Home – providing tents for registration, CVS, Kroger, K-Mart, Rite-Aid and IGA provided free water to the walkers.

The leftover water will be used in the VAC Community Kitchen that serves meals to the community three days a week.
