The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Playhouse will not be included in the real estate listings for dream homes, but the little playhouse could make big dreams come true for a child in Gordon County.

The CASA Playhouse is on display in downtown Calhoun in front of Beth and Co at 204 N. Wall Street, to raise funds for Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Gordon County and their programs.

Having a playhouse is a child’s dream come true. It’s a special place for kids to call their own. Imagine the playhouse in your backyard – a little front door, little windows with latches, front porch – all that’s missing in this adorable little house is a young child to enjoy it.

The Playhouse will be raffled off to one lucky winner on December 14. The raffle will take place at noon in front of Beth and Co. Raffle tickets are $5 each or $20 for five tickets. The winner does not need to be present at the drawing.

In Georgia there are 7,400 children in foster care. Locally, in Gordon County, there are currently 110 children in foster care and only 20 of them have a CASA volunteer.

Because so many foster children in Gordon County do not have a CASA volunteer, there is a vital need for ongoing public awareness of the CASA program.

For children in foster care, their world has been turned upside down. They are often confused and scared. When they are assigned a CASA volunteer, they have an advocate who will work to be sure their voice is heard and that they are treated with dignity and respect.

PCA Gordon provides services for foster children and their families by providing a safe, happy environment for visitation. PCA Gordon also offers parenting classes for all parents, Health Families is used to assist new parents, and the Grand Families program which offers a support system for grandparents raising their grandchildren.

The following businesses donated of time and talent that have made the dream of a CASA Playhouse come true: Calhoun High School CTAE construction class, CHS Skills USA program, Calhoun Home Depot, Gordon Building Supply, Dalton Wholesale Floors, Carroll Towing and Recovery, Gordon County I.T. Dept., and Beth and Co.

Tickets for the CASA Playhouse Raffle are on sale at the Chamber of Commerce office, Beth and Co., WJTH office, Small World Day Care, the Gordon County CASA office, PCA Gordon Family Resource Center, or from a CASA volunteer. For more information, please call Anne Pitts in the Gordon County CASA office at 706-6294561, extension 6 or visit www.gordoncounty.org/CASA.
