The 2011 middle school cross country season kicked off on Tuesday as Ashworth hosted a seven team meet that included both Calhoun and Sonoraville.

The Coosawattee Trail run registered 200 runners from schools in Gordon and Bartow County

The two-mile course went through the wilderness alongside the Coosawattee River.

“We were very happy to have such a large turnout for the event,” said AMS coach Connie Worley. “We’d like to give a special thanks to Tom and Michelle Griffith for letting us have this event on their beautiful property.”

Woodland took first place in the girls’ competition. Cass placed second, followed by South Central, Adairsville, Ashworth, Sonoraville and Calhoun.

Woodland also took first in the boys’ competition, followed by Adairsville, Ashworth, Calhoun, Cass, South Central, and Sonoraville.
