DeKalb County police say the man who jumped was possibly trying to escape the gunfire going on inside the building.
Authorities early Wednesday were still sorting out details of what happened in the overnight home invasion and robbery attempt in Stone Mountain.
Police tell WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/3zVcAZ) that a group of men in their 20s burst into the apartment on Lancashire Circle, where a couple and two young children were inside.
Authorities say a gun battle ensued, and a man jumped from the second story, hit a tree and then fell to the ground dead. The man's involvement in what happened was not immediately known.
