Calhoun maintained their undefeated record and utilized their home court advantage, gaining a large lead early in the game; the Lady Jackets never looked back. Woodland was limited to only 1 point in the first half and only 3 points in the second.
Calhoun’s offense was clearly in the spotlight, but the Lady Jackets defense kept pressure on the Lady Wildcats all game long.
Leading the way for Calhoun was their “horse” as Head Coach Diane Smith refers to Sydnie Parker. She had 12 points and 6 steals during the game. Other notable mentions for Calhoun was Ashlyn Barnes who had 8 points and 3 steals, Madeline Murray had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Alexis Nalley finished with 6 points and 6 rebounds. Madison Green netted 2 points and had 3 assists while teammate Morgan McDaniel had 2 points and grabbed 3 steals.
Coach Smith attributes her team’s athleticism to their win over the Lady Wildcats.
“We were a lot better than they were; we were just better than them in every aspect of the game: offensively and defensively,” said Smith. “I’ve got a good group of girls.”

WRESTLING: Sonoraville gets tough win over rival Warriors
In a match between the Sonoraville Firebirds and the Ashworth Warriors, the Firebirds wrestled their way to a 60-39 win over the Warriors.
Both teams battled to the end but in the latter half of the match it was the wrestlers in red and black that ended up on top. Drew Campbell, Jaccob Bagwell, Skylar Wheaton, Kevin Hurtiz, and Hunter Quinn remained undefeated on the season.
“Drew Campbell stepped up real big for us,” said Sonoraville Wrestling Coach David Bowers. “He’s only been on the team for three days and won two matches tonight.”
The Ashworth Warriors kept the match close, but according to Ashworth’s wrestling coach Chuck Langston, all the Warriors need is some time on the mat.
“A lot of the boys and girls on the varsity spot, this was their first match and a lot of them won,” said Langston. “Everybody stepped up for us and did well; it’s hard to point out one name because the whole team did really good.”
Langston plans to continue to get his wrestlers as much mat time as possible so that they get better and better with each match.
