The movie event Movies & Moonlight returns on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex.

Moviegoers will see the action blockbuster Battleship on the 45-foot screen.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and the movie begins at sunset, roughly 7:45 p.m., according to Gordon County Administrator Randy Dowling.

Both admission and parking are free and concessions are available. Guests are also welcomed to bring their own concessions.

Inflatables will be available for children prior to the movie.

Battleship, which is rated PG-13, was the county’s second choice.

The movie Avengers was the original choice, but due to Marvel Studios selling the distribution rights to Disney, the selection was changed, Dowling said.

“Disney does not allow the showing of movies to a mass audience, which is why we never show Disney movies,” Dowling said. “Since we couldn’t show Avengers, we had to change movies. The only other current release that was a hit was Battleship.”

Movies & Moonlight is in its sixth year, Dowling said, and is held twice per year. The event is sponsored by Santek Waste Services.

“This is great family entertainment and one of the services provided by the county,” Dowling said. “You can watch football in the day and come watch the movie at night. Bring the family out.”
