The Calhoun and Sonoraville competition cheerleaders each competed at the state competion in Columbus on Saturday. The Lady Jackets received a bye through sectionals on Friday due to winning the Region 7-AA competition a week earlier. On Saturday, Calhoun competed well, but finished in second place behind Coosa for the second straight year. It was the seventh straight year that Calhoun has finished at least third or higher at state.

It was also a historic weekend for the Lady Phoenix cheerleading program. Sonoraville competed at state for the first time ever and finished ninth overall in Class AAA. They qualified for Saturday's competition with a fourth-place finish in sectionals on Friday in Columbus.

The strength of competition in the Northwest Georgia area was once again shown at state with several teams finishing high in the final standings. Coosa was the Class AA state champ, followed by Calhoun in second. Pepperell finished fourth. In Class A, Trion won their fifth state title in the last six years and third straight.
