Rome police and Rome-Floyd Fire Department officials responded to the scene. According to Capt. Rodney Bailey, of the Rome Police Department, the unidentified male pedestrian was walking south when a vehicle, also traveling south, hit him.
Capt. Danny Lee of the Rome-Floyd Fire Department said the male had a pulse when officials examined him at the scene, though his breathing was labored.
Bailey said the unidentified driver was issued a citation for DUI after being given a field-sobriety test at the scene. Both the driver and the pedestrian were taken to Floyd Medical Center for evaluation.
It was the second recent incident involving a pedestrian hit near a roadway.
On Friday night, Catherine Lynn Hand, 22, of Rome, was killed after being struck on Shorter Avenue.
Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard said Hand was pronounced dead at 1 a.m. at the Floyd Medical Center Emergency room Saturday.
Hand was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling east near Shorter Industrial Boulevard, police said. She was then struck several more times.
