“We didn’t play a perfect game, but we we made the plays we need to make,” CMS coach Tony Lindsey said.
Calhoun scored in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead when Ryan Brzozoski reached base on a bunt single, advanced to second on a throwing error, stole third, and was then brought home on a Madeline Murray single to left.
Lady Jacket starting pitcher Cassie Henderson faced five batters in the bottom of the inning but was never really threatened.
Calhoun could mount no offense in the second inning as Adairsville pitcher Abbey Liscio struck out the side.
The Lady Tigers loaded the bases in the bottom of the second but Henderson got out of the inning unscathed when a line drive to Brzozoski turned into a double play.
Liscio again faced the minimum Calhoun batters in the third inning and the Adairsville managed to push a run across the plate in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
The Lady Jackets responded in the top of the fourth with three runs for a 4-1 lead.
Jana Johns led off the inning with a single to right and was sacrificed to second by Madison Green. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
Chloe Rice and Sydnie Parker were then walked and after fighting off a couple of pitches, Ashlyn Barnes doubled to left, scoring Rice’s courtesy runner Brooke Towe and Parker.
Henderson breezed through the next two innings and Calhoun headed into the final inning with a three run lead.
After the Lady Jackets went scoreless in the top of the inning, Adairsville took advantage of a Calhoun miscue in the bottom of the sixth to push two runs across the plate.
Henderson then got a groundout and a pop fly to complete her complete game, one run victory.
“Cassie pitched ahead, located well, and pitched to contact, allowing her defense to support her,” said Lindsey. “When it comes to a defensive competition I would not bet against these girls.”
