Mr. Roy William Gravitt, 89, of Plainville, Ga. died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Gordon County on January 10, 1923, son of the late Norris and Carrie Gravitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Lucille Cudd Gravitt; his second wife, Hazel Gravitt; a son, Roy Levon Gravitt; a daughter, Teresa Gravitt; and a sister, Mamie Burke.

Mr. Gravitt was retired from the textile industry, and was a veteran, serving his country in the US Army from 1943 until 1945. He participated in several battles and campaigns as a Military Policeman, including Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the EAMET Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Survivors include a son, Norris Lamar Gravitt of Plainville; a brother, Clyde Gravitt of Plainville; grandchildren, Norris Lamar Gravitt, Jr., William Frederick Gravitt, and Lucinda Danielle Koon; and great-grandchildren, Aspen Kaige Hegarty, Jase Sirron Koon, and Chloe Gwyn Bramblett.

Funeral services for Mr. Roy William Gravitt were held Sunday, November 25 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. David Ray officiating. Interment followed in the Scott Cemetery with military honors. Active pallbearers included Norris Gravitt, Eric Gravitt, Jamie Koon, Justin Gravitt, Danny West, and Skyler West.

The Gravitt family received friends Saturday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
