On Friday, February 25, the Sonoraville High School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) sponsored the first Miss Sonoraville Pageant.

FCCLA is a student-led organization that focuses on the importance of leadership and the development of life skills, and family. The proceeds from the pageant will benefit students as they travel to the State Leadership Conference in Athens, Ga. and the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif. to compete in STAR Events Competitions.

The pageant featured more than 80 participants and included four divisions: little miss Sonoraville Elementary, Miss Sonoraville Elementary, Miss Sonoraville Middle and Miss Sonoraville High School. Leah Braddy, SHS FCCLA Advisor, and Heather Roberts, SHS teacher and talent consultant, served as the pageant directors.

Winners in each pageant category were: Little Miss Sonoraville, Kalin Lyles, Miss Sonoraville Elementary, Mariah Key, Miss Sonoraville Middle, Marianna Gibson, and Miss Sonoraville High School, Tori Ralston.

The elementary divisions started at 6 p.m., and the middle and high school divisions began at 8 p.m., in the Sonoraville Elementary cafeteria. Peter Coombe, the SES counselor, was the MC for the elementary pageant, and Matt Loyd, the SHS band director, aided in the crowning of the contestants. Loyd also assisted SHS student Madison Smith in the announcing and crowning of the middle and high school contestants.

The contestants each wore a casual outfit, as well as a formal pageant gown. They were judged on physical beauty, walk, poise, personality, and their casual/ formal outfits. The girls also competed in optional categories such as most photogenic, prettiest smile, prettiest eyes, prettiest dress, and best hair.
