Superintendent Gayland Cooper said the eliminated jobs would be counselor and assistant principal positions, but he said he would prefer to release the details during the official announcement at Tuesday evening's BOE meeting.
"We don't have reserves; we're having to trim back our expenditures," said Cooper. "It's very painful."
Cooper said the people in the positions proposed for elimination will be encouraged to apply for other jobs within the city system if they have the proper certifications.
Additionally, the assistant superintendent position, vacant since Mike Buck's resignation in January, will not be filled during the coming school year.
The school board meets at 5:45 p.m. today at the central office on East Second Street.
