Ashworth and Sonoraville again split golf tri-match

The Ashworth and Sonoraville golf teams once again competed in a tri-match on Tuesday.

The Ashworth boys came in first with a team score of 193. Cass finished just two strokes behind at 195. Sonoraville placed third with a score of 223.

Leading the way for Ashworth was Seth Culpepper, Mason Miles and Turner Seymore, who all carded individual scores of 48. Jonathon Nesbitt followed with a 49 for the counting scores.

Stanton Walker shot a 51 and Isaac Carter came in with a personal best of 55 for the Warriors. Ethan Ellis and Garrett Dodd each shot 59.

“We are proud of the great effort the golfers are showing this year,”said Ashworth coach Melanie Moore. “They are becoming much more consistent and confidant with their golf games due to their hard work.”

Sonoraville's lowest scorer was Justin Jones with a 47. Landon Sanderson shot a 57 followed by Luke Stewart with a 59. Lane Strickland and Wesley Griffin carded 60 each with Gavin Thompson rounding out the field with a 61.

Low medalist of the match was Joseph Hoceiniec from Cass with a 38 over nine holes.

Sonoraville won the girls competition with a team score of 108. They edged out the Lady Warriors by one stroke. Cass shot a 113 for a very close three-way match.

The Lady Phoenix were led by Ashley Holcomb, who was the low medalist with an individual score of 53. Clara Hulsey rounded out the SMS team scoring with a 55. Julia McKinney shot a 60.

Scoring for Ashworth was Tori Hopper with a 54 and Peyton Robinson with a 55, a season low for both. Teagan Lovingood and Kayla Holcomb shot 60 each.
