The Sugar Hill City Council this week appropriated $5,000 to study the feasibility of using natural gas instead of gasoline.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that the city council's decision Monday allows City Manager Bob Hail to enter into a contract with consultant Wise Gas Inc. of Westin, Fla., which will perform the study.
Hail says initially powering some and then potentially all of Sugar Hill's estimated 60 vehicles could save the city up to 40 percent in fuel costs and reduce harmful emissions.
Sugar Hill is about 35 miles northeast of Atlanta.
