But that positive also came with some negative as well.
Sonoraville senior running back Jackson Murray was injured in the win, suffering a severe hyperextension in his bicep, and will be out 2-6 weeks. It was previously thought that Murray tore his bicep and would be lost for the season, but an MRI revealed no tear.
The injury was definitely something Sonoraville didn't need as they are already dealing with several other injuries as they enter the region schedule this Friday when the host Coahulla Creek.
The Colts are in their first year of varsity football, and enter the game at 1-2, with their only win coming in Week 1 against Murray County.
Sonoraville is going into the game with some momentum despite the injuries.
Quarterback Tyler Harris had a solid night against Model, going 12-for-19 passing for 157 yards and a TD to go along with a rushing TD.
The now-injured Murray also had a big part in the win, rushing for 51 yards and a TD and catching three passes for 90 yards and TD.
Someone will have to step up to fill the void in production that will be left by the Murray injury. Clay Grisham and Taylor Kephart is expected to shoulder some of the load in the running game.
Prediction:
The Phoenix have struggled early in the season, but the Model win should give them some confidence headed into the Region 5-AAA opener.
Coahulla Creek is going through their first varsity season of football, and it's showing.
Sonoraville is more talented and experienced than the Colts and that will show on Friday.
Score:
Sonoraville 21, Coahulla Creek 7
