Players could win $1,000 if Molly the cow drops her chips on their Bingo card numbers.

With the help of partners in Gordon County, Action Ministries will host Cow-a-Bunga Bingo on October 6 at Farmville United Methodist Church, 4921 Fairmount Hwy SE, Calhoun.

The event will get underway at 11 a.m.

“We are really thrilled with the work being done for this event, and the Action Ministries program is outstanding,” pastor of Farmville United Methodist Church Guy Kent said. “We are going on four years in partnership with Action Ministries.”

Action Ministries Housing is a program of Action Ministries, a statewide nonprofit that leads communities and volunteers in serving their neighbors in need by providing hunger, housing and education solutions.

In Gordon County and many other counties, and through programs such as Breakthru House, Our Daily Bread, Action Ministries Housing and the Smart Lunch, Smart Kid child nutrition initiative, Action Ministries is serving more Georgians than ever before, according to a press release from Action Ministries.

Tickets are now on sale for $10 at www.ActionMinistries.com and in-person at North Georgia National Bank, Farmville United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church and the Jannan School.

And if procrastination is an issue then don’t panic, because raffle tickets will be available until the start of the event or they are sold out.

There are only 15 open spots for vendors who would like to participate. September 28 is the final day to register for vendors.

According to event organizers, only 1,500 raffle tickets (grid squares) will be sold with each ticket number randomly assigned a square on the grid.

At the designated start time, one cow will be led into the grid area by an appropriate handler and set free to roam within the area until a cow pie is placed on a grid or the one hour time allotment has expired.

Upon completion of a cow pie or one hour time allotment, the cow will be escorted out of the area by the handler and the independent judges will determine the results.

Along with Cow-a-Bunga Bingo there will be other events open for participation.

According to Event Coordinator Shannon Harris, the Gordon County Sheriffs department has volunteered to be the victims in the dunking tank, and Sharkey’s and the Sweet Spot will be there with food and dessert.

Harris also said there will be pet adoption available for anyone interested in bringing home a new fuzzy friend.

According to Harris some of the other vendors for the event are Chick-fil-A, First Methodist Church, Farmville United Methodist Church, WEBS Radio, North Georgia National Bank and Rubie Stella & Co.

“I think they are very focused and passionate about their (Action Ministries) mission. The more we get involved with Action Ministries the more we can help,” Harris said. “I think it will be a very good relationship between Action Ministries and the community.”

Proceeds will help Action Ministries to provide housing, case management, transportation, child care and health services to homeless families in the Calhoun community.

“Action Ministries Housing provides innovative solutions that help people transform their lives and you can certainly say Cow-a-Bunga Bingo is an innovative idea,” executive director of Action Ministries Housing Rev. Jannan Thomas said. “We hope the Calhoun community will catch the Cow-a-Bunga spirit and have a great time supporting Action Ministries Housing.”
