Calhoun Elementary School announced this week that Tricia Waters was named the school’s “Teacher of the Year” for 2013-2014.

The announcement was made at a faculty meeting as finalists Cherri Rains, Brittany Anderson, and Tricia were all recognized and honored by their colleagues.

Waters was described by her colleague Jamie Holcomb as “one who always puts the needs of boys and girls at the forefront of all that is done. Tricia is helpful of others and never fails to volunteer or contribute when help is needed. Our grade level is much better for having the opportunity to work alongside Tricia Waters and she always inspired us to be the absolute best we can be.”

Waters works with 3rd and 4th Grade students this year and has been instrumental in helping math teachers with the transition to the new Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) curriculum.

Waters is a tremendous team player, according to information from the school, and always enjoys recognizing and praising others for their hard work and dedication.

In addition to her teaching duties Waters serves on several committees including the Math Better Seeker team as co-chairperson, the CES Leadership Team, the Science Olympiad club co- sponsor, and as a MathMania coach and event organizer.

Waters is married to Steven Waters, a 5th Grade teacher at CES, and they have two children, Alyssa and Junior, both students within Calhoun City Schools.
