A surprise ‘Tailgate’ themed ceremony was held at the Red Bud Media Center on Tuesday, October 23.
Past teachers, Gordon County Board Members, family, friends, and coworkers were present as Gordon County Superintendent, Dr. Bill McCown, presented Coach Baxter with an award for his accomplishment.
“A relevant, rigorous, results based education made possible through nurturing relationships is Gordon County’s mission statement, and I don’t think anyone understands nurturing relationships more than Corey Baxter,” said McCown. “I think he understands that because he was raised with nurturing relationships. Corey is all about educating the whole child. We are not just about numbers and words, we are about putting it all together, and what Corey has the opportunity to do is put it all together in his classroom.”
Mrs. Jennifer L. Hayes, principal of Red Bud Elementary, also presented Coach Baxter with a banner and coaching jacket for his success.
“I appreciate it,” said Baxter of the awards. “I know we have a lot of deserving people here at Red Bud. I am blessed by everyone’s support.”
Baxter will represent the Gordon County School District in the State of Georgia Teacher Of The Year Competition in 2013.
