The City of Calhoun has sent six people to help with the power restoration caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Allan McCormick, Greg Dodd, Lee Crump, Gary Teague, Nick Land and Scotty Harmon left at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30 to help rebuild the electrical infrastructure around the Oakland Maryland area.

The help was requested through the Electric Cities of Georgia (ECG) as part of the American Public Power Association (APPA) Mutual Aid Agreement.

Jon Beasley, ECG Training and Safety Superintendent, will coordinate volunteers from Calhoun, Dalton, Griffin, Ellaville, LaGrange and Elberton.

Electric Cities of Georgia members have one mission in mind, to repair the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

According to the press release from the Calhoun Utilities, the area the guys were sent to have around 18,000 people, and approximately 90 percent of people in the area don’t have power.

Apparently this trip has more danger in it than one would think.

The guys were issued “Bear Spray” due to an increase of Black Bears in the area, according to the press release.

“The restoration and deployment is being discussed,” Jeff DeFoor, Director of Electric Utilities, said.

“Our guys may be moving to another state and helping through next week,” he said.
