Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Calhoun resident Luis M. Santizo as a recipient of the chain’s $1,000 Leadership Scholarship.

Santizo was nominated by Jonathan Purser, Operator of Chick-fil-A at Calhoun Restaurant. Santizo has worked for Chick-fil-A for more than four years. He is attending Georgia Northwestern College. Luis is majoring in Business Management and already serves in leadership at Chick-fil-A at Calhoun, where he is the Quality and Training Director.

“The program recognizes employees who demonstrate the leadership and character qualities to build a successful life, while offering tangible assistance to enrich their lives with education beyond high school,” said Purser. “Luis has the potential to accomplish great things.”

The Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarship Program began in 1973 out of founder Truett Cathy’s desire to incent restaurant employees to further their education. Since the program’s inception, more than 3,100 team members have received scholarships, bringing the total amount to nearly $30 million. Santizo‘s is the 49th $1,000 scholarship awarded from the Calhoun Chick-fil-A restaurant.

In addition, all recipients are eligible for Chick-fil-A’s S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award, which provides an additional $1,000 scholarship to the top 25 Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarship recipients each year.
