After 16 days of being on the look out for the man suspected of the thefts of propane cylinders authorities have arrested the person they think is responsible.

On Tuesday, November 13, deputy sheriffs responded to a report of the theft of several propane cylinders at the ‘Martin’s Corner’ store in the Dews Pond community.

Detectives reviewed surveillance videos and determined that the vehicle involved was a small blue sedan driven by a white male individual. This information was broadcast to all deputy sheriffs and to the local State Patrol post.

Sean Dwight Collins, age 24, of 21 South Blanche Avenue, Rome was arrested on Thursday, November 29 after a state trooper on routine patrol on Highway 53 West, near Calhoun, stopped a small blue sedan for a traffic violation.

The observant trooper noticed that the automobile’s trunk was secured by a rope, and also saw a number of propane cylinders in the trunk and also in the back seat, according to the press release.

After questioning Collins, who was discovered to be on probation for a previous theft in Floyd County, the trooper summoned detectives to the scene, according to the press release.

Collins was arrested and charged with Theft by Taking in connection with the theft at Martin’s Corner, and Receiving Stolen Property, according to the press release.

Detectives believe that the propane canisters found by the trooper were stolen from Floyd County. Collins is currently housed at the Gordon County jail.
