In September, 2001, Smallwood taught his last class at Sonoraville Middle School, where he wrote down each students name and what profession he believed each student would grow up to pursue. The deal with the students was they all must return 10 years after the list was written to see if his predictions were correct.
On Dec. 12, 2012 at noon at Sonoraville Middle School, Smallwood hopes that students from his class will attend the informal reunion, to hear him read the list, which he has not read yet. Two former students from the class reminded Smallwood of the reunion. Reminded of his promise, Smallwood contacted SMS math teacher and coach Eddie Jones, who retrieved the 10 year old envelope from behind a large shelf, placed there by Smallwood 10 years ago.
Smallwood says it all started when he told one class clown he would grow up to be a comedian, and it took of from there.
“I just can’t believe 10 years have gone by so fast,” said Smallwood. “I would like students to bring photos to share with other students, and just come hear what I wrote about them.”
Students in Smallwood's class were: Jessica Atwood, Stephanie Posey, Bobby Henderson, Lee Callaway, Megan Townsend, Kendra Lee Torok, Shawn Moorehead, Matt Selvey, Beau Gulledge, Chris Garner, Lindsey Ollis, Stevie Warren, A.J. Wells, and Ashley Fergerson.
Smallwood will be providing refreshments and hopes most if not all of the 14 students who attended his Reading Is Going On (RINGO), class at Sonoraville Middle School in 2001, will attend on Wednesday. Former students are welcome to bring spouses to the event.
