Calhoun City Board of Education Member Debra Moyer resigned her position this week to become the College and Career Transition Coach at Calhoun High.

In a letter of resignation to the Board, Moyer wrote, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure as a Board member and feel grateful to have worked with this dedicated, caring group who focus on what is best for our students.”

Prior to serving as a financial aid counselor at Dalton State College, Moyer was the graduation coach at CHS. “As we transition into our new high school / middle school facility, we are making plans for the Media / College and Career Center which will be staffed with qualified personnel who will serve students in grades six through twelve,” said Calhoun Principal Greg Green

“We do not plan to have two media specialists, rather we will have one media specialist and one college and career transition coach,” he added. “Mrs. Moyer has the knowledge and skills to support students as they prepare for post secondary college and/or career opportunities and coupled with her experience at the high school, she is a perfect fit. Whether on the School Board or in the schools, Debra wants to serve the students of Calhoun City Schools.”

Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor added:

“We’ve had several retirements that have made this staffing transition possible and we are excited to bring Debra back to CHS to provide additional support to future graduates,” she said.

Following her resignation, Mrs. Moyer was recommended to the Board at the December 18, 2012 Board of Education meeting.

The municipal charter of the City of Calhoun states, “All vacancies occurring on the board by death, resignation, or disqualification shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term by election of the board of education of the city.”

The School Board will consider individuals who submit a letter of interest and resume to fulfill Mrs. Moyer’s unexpired term. Resumes and letters of interest may be sent to ccs@calhounschools.org or mailed to Calhoun City Schools c/o Amy Atkinson, Chair, 380 Barrett Road, Calhoun, GA 30701 by Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
