Cody James Cronan, 19, and Tamara Stone, 22, both of Calhoun were arrested on Tuesday, January 8 by the Calhoun Police Department (CPD) after an investigation linked them to an alleged child abuse.

The investigation started after a complaint was filed from Gordon Hospital on Friday, December 21 in reference to a possible child abuse case, according to a report from the CPD.

CPD officers were dispatched to the scene after several marks were observed by the hospital staff on a two-year-old child that, according to the report, were suspicious in nature.

Detectives responded to the scene and subsequently began an investigation into the matter.

During the investigation, authorities said, there was evidence discovered linking both suspects to the assault.

According to authorities, the evidence is not being released due to the case being open at this time and this being a Family Violence Act.

Following the discovery, warrants were issued and both Cronan and Stone were taken into custody.

According to authorities, Cronan and Stone were both charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, and remain in Gordon County Jail awaiting bond proceedings.
