Mr. James Julen Parker, 84, of Dalton, departed this life Saturday January 12, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. James was born on July 14, 1928 a son of the late John and Ollie Junkins Parker. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Aileen Brookshire Parker, his second wife, Ruby Ledford Parker, a son Kenneth Langley, brothers; J.R. and Bobbie Parker, sisters; Pauline, Mildred, Bessie, and Geneva Silvers. James loved to garden, fish and work on lawn mowers. He retired from the Whitfield County Dept. of transportation and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Church of Jesus Christ in Ranger, Ga.

James is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Donna Parker of Calhoun, Ga.; Coy and DeAnna Parker of Calhoun, Ga.; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Gary Fuller of Calhoun, Ga, Ruth and Jeff Padgett of Dalton, Ga.; Sisters; Mary Jo Woody of Calhoun, Ga. and Dorthy Gallman of Calhoun, Ga. and Brothers; Eugene Parker of Ranger, Ga. and Herbert Parker of Calhoun, Ga. James has twenty-two grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The family would like to send a special thanks to the Nurses and Aides of Hospice and special caregivers his granddaughters, Charlotte Walker and Cathy Sampson who provided such great care to him.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. James Julen Parker were held Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Reverend Johnny Parker and Pastor Ricky Silvers officiating the graveside. Music was provided by Faye Bentley. Serving as pall bearers were grandsons, grandsons-in-laws and nephew; Matt Gillette, Henry Hunter, Wayne Fuller, Brian Parker, Dalton Fuller, Brandon Parker and Roy Peirce. Honorary pall bearers were his nephews. James was laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery next to his wife. The family received friends on Monday January 14 at the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home in Calhoun GA from 5-9 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.pondersfuneralhome.com.
