UPDATE

Authorities say a truck driver was attempting to turn around on Curtis Parkway at Ga. 53 Wednesday afternoon when the truck snagged a guide-wire and pulled down a power pole.

Curtis Parkway was subsequently shut down and power was lost to nearby businesses.

According to Det. Lt. Tony Pyle of the Calhoun Police Department the trucker, who has not been identified, pulled into the parking lot of Backyard Oasis and attempted to cross through grass and into the adjacent Kangaroo parking lot when the truck became entangled with the wire and subsequently pulled the pole down.

“The guy made an error in judgment,” Pyle said.

There were no injuries in the accident.

The Kangaroo and Krystal across the street were shutdown due to the power outage, Pyle said.

At around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Pyle estimated crews would be on the scene for another three to four hours and officers would be directing traffic.

Pyle said he did not anticipate that the driver would face any charges. The truck was registered to Florilli Transportation, Pyle said. The company is based in West Liberty, Iowa.

Previous story

Curtis Parkway at U.S. 53 was closed late Wednesday after a tractor-trailer became entangled in power lines and pulled a power pole down. Nearby businesses were without power as city crews worked to restore power. As of 5 p.m. there was no word on when power would be restored. The driver of the truck was uninjured. The one nugget in this discussion is (surprised face) you can’t address a simple question. Focus TL focus!!!

Certifiable fact: the interest on debt figures you so eagerly hang on the previous administration actually include interest paid on Treasury notes and bonds, Savings bonds, GAS and State/Local special purpose securities. (FYI: that is interest owed no matter who is president) Foreign indebtedness, notes/bonds are a portion but NOT the sole expenditures for interest.

Furthermore, it is but a simple accounting trick to apply interest payments to any budget item; whichever is more politically expedient for one’s position. Predictably, wars and evil-rich tax cuts are the favored targets for your argument. Don’t argue the point with me; try the Treasury Department as it is the source of my facts.

Admittedly, you had me on Manti Te’o’s girlfriend. Had to look it up. Just another low-information-voter news blurb that has the low information crowd enthralled.

Yep, that'll fix everything response is among top three dumbest (so far).

Not one nugget and about as real as Manti Te'o's girlfriend.

Certifiable fact: Most of the extra debt we've acquired over the last four years is attributable to the interest on money borrowed during the Bush years to fund two wars and huge tax cuts for millionaires.

Termlimits is most certainly the biggest whiner on this site. Of course, if your master Obama does something, you can't slober enough.

And while I'm at it, you complain or comment negatively about everything local. If you don't like what's going on in the county, then run for office.....or, have you already attempted that and were soundly defeated?

Conservatives grudgingly forgive Saint Ron for being wrong on “assault” weapons. You know, those scary looking weapons that do the exact same things as less scary looking weapons, but just look scarier while doing it. Yes, he supported the Brady Bill (along with fellow ex-president, our national hemorrhoid “Jimay” Carter) after he was out of office and in the throws of Alzheimer’s. But important to note he was a lifelong firearms enthusiast and while in office he signed the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986; which is responsible for reigning in the ATF and limit their harassment of law-abiding citizens.

Rights to quash – what part of “shall not be infringed” do you NOT understand?

The statement was “progressiveness to propagate” (at least quote me correctly) and I guess in your world the anointed one is the master of sound fiscal policy i.e., ever increasing deficits, debt and demanding unilateral authority to increase the spending limit. But food stamps are stimulus right? Wall Street is up and down no matter who occupies the Oval orifice. It’s all just paper. Tangible assets like real estate are in the tank overall.

The dumbest things written in the Calhoun Times? That’s a rather high standard to meet but you certainly are in contention.

You may now cancel your outrage.

“…guns to confiscate?” In Obama's gun policy speech, he invoked Saint Reagan, who, it turns out, supported an assault weapon ban. So the conservatives must reluctantly agree, right? Nope, “NO Party” is now saying Ronnie R was demented and racist for supporting it.

“…rights to quash?” New gun turns anyone into a sharpshooter able to hit a target almost one mile away. What could possibly go wrong?

“…progress to spread?” Obama's anti-business policies have devastated Wall St. to the tune of a 40% increase since 2009

We shall be struck with surprise if response is not among the dumbest five things written in the Calhoun Times this year.

Well, egg on our face along with the occasional K combo?

It definitely wasn't up when I posted about the RNT.I guess the article about the truck snagging a guy wire was more important right then than a story about someone armed with a rifle being shot to death by a couple of deputies.

Run – Check again. The shooting story was up about 9:30 last night. But there are more important fish to fry. We have guns to confiscate, rights to quash and the paradise of progressiveness to propagate. So much freedom to quell, so little time.

Run – There is someone in the other room screaming for you NOT to encourage me. Don’t tell anyone, but I occasionally enjoy a Krystal combo myself. Everyone should get his or her “Gross-tal” on from time-to-time.

The Rome News Tribune has a story about the deputy involved shooting.Sounds like it was certainly justified.Who knows why the Calhoun Times doesn't post the article.

Imagine the angst of those who drove in from the nether regions of the county to satisfy their Krystal craving only to find it gloomy and uninviting; just like normal except without electricity.

So a driver who opted to cut through the grass rather than drive on the road and by doing so caused both physical damage to the area and monetary loss to the businesses effected won't face any charges at all...I'm glad he's alright, but it seems a little ridiculous, especially with our ticket happy force. If cutting through the grass is fair game now, I think I might cut myself a short cut to work in the morning.
