Mrs. Hunt was born in Gordon County on October 3, 1925, daughter of the late James Whittemore and Willie Padgett Whittemore, and grew up in the Oakman Community. She became a public school teacher in Gordon County at the Oakman and Fairmount Schools, and later in the Savannah, GA school system. Prior to her retirement and moving to Calhoun, she lived in Dalton and was employed as a day care teacher. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death was her husband, Eugene Jerome Hunt in May of 2004.
Survivors include a son, Dan Hunt and his wife Georgette of Calhoun; a daughter, Donita White of California; four grandchildren, Alexandria Hunt, Julianna Hunt, Eric White and Jessica White; four great- grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Virginia Whittemore; and brother in law, Joe Gill; along with other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Miriam “Dell” Whittemore Hunt were conducted Monday, January 21 at 2:30 p.m. from the graveside at Oakman Methodist Church Cemetery in Oakman, Ga., with Rev. Tom Lanford officiating.
The family received friends Monday, January 21 from 12 – 2 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers serving included Dan Hunt, Kyle Marlow, Kelly Whaley and Joseph Forrest. Honorary pallbearers serving were employees of Gordon Health Care.
