Velma Massey Rierson

Velma Massey Rierson, 83, of Calhoun died at 5:55 p.m., Friday, January 18 in Gordon Hospital.

Velma was born, February 18, 1929 in Laclede County near the town of Lebanon, Missouri, a daughter of the late John and Josey Massey. Also, she was preceded in death by one sister, Nora Bohannon and four brothers, Orville Massey, Olen Massey, Loren Massey and Waldo Massey. She was an outstanding homemaker and enjoyed studying and teaching Biblical principles to young people.

Velma is survived by her husband, Carl Rierson of Calhoun; one son, Steve Rierson and his wife, Jane of Calhoun; one daughter Janice Easterling and her husband Doug of Winder; six grandchildren, Tim Easterling and his wife, Lori, Jim Easterling and his wife Nancy of Winder, Alex Rierson, Chandler Rierson, Chase Rierson, and Chapin Rierson all of Calhoun; five great grandchildren, Kelsey Easterling, Hannah Easterling, Haleigh Easterling, Morgan Easterling, and Madi Easterling all of Winder; one sister in law, Carolyn Rierson of Kernersville, N.C.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, January 21 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Matt Futch officiating. Nancy Easterling had charge of music and burial was in Sugar Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Mitch Phillips in charge of grave-side committal services. The Rierson family received friends from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers were Barry Tow and Mrs. Rierson’s five grandsons.
