According to Calhoun City Police Lt. Tony Pyle, a company contracted to install fiber optic cables cut the gas line on accident at a 1115 Wall St. address.
The call came into police at approximately 4:35 p.m.. Atlanta Gas Light, the owner of the gas line, was contacted and the companies first responders arrived on scene by 5:15 p.m., according to a company spokesperson.
The road was closed for approximately five hours and reopened at 10 p.m. Wednesday evening, according to Pyle.
According to Pyle, the road was shut down and the area evacuated in the event of a possible explosion, but also to allow work crews the space of the open road to repair the damage.
There were no injuries or reports of gas outages from the cut line.
