Beginning in November, Mandy and friends began wrapping boxes to be placed in businesses throughout Calhoun and Gordon County for donations of socks to be collected. The people and businesses that either helped collect socks, money to buy socks, or that sported a box for Marley’s sock collecting were: Eternal Moments, Pak Mail, Brians Auto Sales, The Dog House, Farm Bureau, Shag, Morning Pointe of Calhoun, Wells Fargo (Staff), Patty Dockery at City Hall, the Sweet Spot, Wal-Mart, Pokey’s, Tractor Supply, McAffee Dentist, Marley Moo’s, National League of Junior Cotillions Members, Cris and Leslie Griffin at Renegade Athletics, and Anderson Automotive who collected and donated money to purchase socks.
The place with the most socks collected was Holli Watkins and Tammy Henderson at Jane’s Beauty Shop.
“A special thanks goes out to many middle school and high school students that helped with ‘Marley’s Socks for Kids,” said Mandy Gentry, Marley’s mother. “A lot of community service hours were earned by these wonderful students.”
Marley donated the more than 2,000 pairs of socks to the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) in Calhoun to benefit children in the community.
