Mrs. Ruth Fuller Smith, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Ruth was born October 12, 1934 in Calhoun, Georgia. Ruth was a graduate of Reinhardt College and Berry College where she obtained her master’s degree in early childhood education. She taught many years at Varnell Elementary School and her last place of employment was with the local Employment office.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertie Baxter Fuller, her brothers, John C. Tate and J.W. Fuller, a sister, Loriene Babb and a brother-in-law, Danny Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, James Don “Jim” Smith of the residence; sisters, Juena Coulter of Dalton, Carol Turner of Indianapolis, Ind., and Berta Fuller of Lafayette, Ga.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry and LaCresia Smith, Steve and Pam Smith, Charles and Brenda Smith, Glenda and Larry Fowler, Connie Duncan all of Dalton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ruth Fuller Smith will be held Sunday, February 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend John Massingill officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Gordon County. Pallbearers will be David Tate, Robert Tate, David Tate, Steve Smith, Larry Smith, Anthony Smith and Chris Smith. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5-9 p.m. Saturday and after 11 a.m. Sunday until the service hour.
