Dora was born November 5, 1923 in Lumpkin County, daughter of the late Dessie Tipton, she was a homemaker and member of the Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Gilmer County. Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Lewis Underwood to whom she was married for 68 years, a son, Curtis Lewis Underwood Jr., grandson; Curtis Lee Underwood, and a granddaughter; Amanda Padgett.
Survivors include, her son, Jimmy Underwood and his wife Sandra of Calhoun, three daughters; Jean Manning and her husband Jerry of Dalton, Jamie Cole and her husband Duane of Blue Ridge, and Jill Fite and her husband Steve of Resaca, daughter in law, Helen Underwood of Indiana as well as a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday February 9 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Self, Rev. Doug Roebuck and Jerry Manning officiating. After the funeral Mrs. Underwood was taken to the Concord Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, Ga. to lie in state from 2 until 3 p.m. followed by burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers included, John Bailey, Jerry Manning, Phillip Bailey, Frank Barnhill, Jimmy Underwood, and Braden Bailey. Honorary pallbearers include, Steve Fite, Melissa Estes, Daisy Hyde, Joann Bohannon, Bobby and Shelba Causby, Angie Posey, Helen Underwood, Cindy Aubry, Stella Barnhill, Susie Thomas, additional pallbearers and special caregivers were the staff of Northside Hospice, Lisa Beasley, April Russell, Doug Roebuck, Dana Dockery, Linda Hawkins, Molly Myers, Travis Heard and Lyn Ricuccia.
The family received friends Friday evening from 4 until 8 p.m.
