After being on the run for 13 days a Calhoun man has been arrested for alleged child molestation.

Angel Esqueda, 27, of Calhoun has been arrested and charged with three counts of child molestation and one count of felony sexual battery against a person under 16.

The sheriff’s office received a report on February 5 of child molestation against a female victim.

An investigation was opened and according to authorities the events were alleged to have taken place at a private residence near the Newtown community between June 2012 and February 2013.

On February 7 sheriff’s detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of Esqueda. According to authorities Esqueda evaded arrest and remained at large until February 20 when the Calhoun Police received information that Esqueda was at a Neal St. apartment in Calhoun.

Officer Thompson with the CPD went to serve Esqueda the warrant, and upon arrival described the apartment as smelling of burning marijuana.

A woman answered the door, and then proceeded to run to the back bedroom and allegedly warn others of the officer’s presence.

“The odor of burning marijuana would take your breath,” Thompson said in the incident report.

As Thompson entered the apartment there was a man lying on the couch with his two children. Thompson asked him where Esqueda was and the man informed Thomson that Esqueda was in the back.

“When I walked around the corner I could see Amanda Ward and Patrica Mathews standing in the bed room full of smoke. This was where the strong odor of marijuana was coming from,” Thompson said.

He could hear the shower running and Ward informed Thompson that Esqueda was in the shower, after which Thompson opened the door and arrested Esqueda. Thompson also took Ward and Mathews into custody for possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

According to authorities, DFACS was called to the scene to open a case and the children were released to their grandmother.

All persons in custody were transported to the Gordon County Jail. Ward has been release, Mathews remains in custody due to a warrant served for simple battery and Esqueda also remains in custody pending bond.
