Sponsored by the Development Authority, the breakfast included the installation of officers as well as the state of the county and city addresses in a combined gathering. The original chamber banquet was scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 31, one day after an EF3 tornado ripped through Gordon County.
The banquet was rescheduled and the meal prepared for the event was taken to Sonoraville High School to help feed those affected by the storm.
“The board did not feel that it was appropriate to hold this event when so many of our neighbors were in need,” said Kenny Fuqea, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 2013.
Kenny Fuqea was sworn in as the new Chairman of the board by former chairman David Scoggins.
With his parting words, Scoggins also awarded plaques to the retiring members of the board of directors before giving his own farewell.
“It was my privilege to work with an outstanding board of directors in 2012,” said Scoggins. “I could not have asked for a more dedicated group of people who at their very core had the community’s best interest in every decision and discussion it undertook. Through their efforts, they have made Gordon County a better place to live work and play.”
Fuquea concluded the breakfast with the charge of the Chamber’s newest campaign to welcome 100 new members in 100 days.
“This chamber is a service and I want to make sure that you know that the staff and the board is committed to that service,” said Fuquea. “You have heard the mayor talk today, you’ve heard our county commissioner chair talk today, and I am proud to be associated with that today, so this ought to be an easy sale to get 100 members in 100 days.”
