Sonoraville Elementary recently hosted its 4th annual Jump Rope For the Heart event with two different grades for half a day for three days. The event raised more than $5,000 for heart disease awareness.

Kindergarten through 5th grade students participated in jump roping competitions leading to a record 148 students who participated and raised more than $5,000, with all funds going to education, research and technology to help prevent heart disease.

The event was aimed at teaching heart healthy lifestyles and the importance of philanthropy while assisting in helping to stop heart disease.

Sonoraville Elementary received gift certificates from US Games which will be used to buy equipment for PE classes.

“Even though our total of $5,614.34 is lower than the last two years, it is still a great testament to our school motto ‘Strength in Every Student’, as well as our community, considering the hardships we’ve endured this year,” said JRFH program coordinator Bartt Gilreath.
