Snow did indeed fall in Gordon County last night.

Gordon County Emergency Management is swatching the situation closely. EMA director Richard Cooper reminds local residents not to forget pets, pipes, the elderly and monitor space heaters.

Some local schools and businesses are closed today because of the snow.

Local schools and colleges

Calhoun City Schools — There will be no school for students in the Calhoun City School system Friday. After-school care will be provided for kids from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 770-773-6071 if you have any questions.

Gordon County Schools — The Gordon County School system will not have school Friday. A decision about events Saturday will be made Friday.

Georgia Cumberland Academy — They will have schools Friday.

Northwest Georgia Technical College — There is no school for Friday.

Dalton State College — Classes will be closing at 4:45 p.m. Thursday. The school will reopen at 10 a.m. Friday. Call 706-272-4436 if you have any questions.

Local services, businesses and community groups

Health departments in the following northwest Georgia counties will now be closed all day Friday, January 8: Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon and Walker.

The Gordon County government offices will delay opening until 10:30 am on Friday.

Calhoun and Gordon County Meals on Wheels — They will not deliver food on Friday. Call 706-629-0392 if you have any questions.

Gordon County Adult & Youth Basketball will be cancelled tonight due to weather. Friday's schedule will be posted at a later time.
